In short
The design, installation and cost differences between trimless and trimmed recessed linear LED lighting.

Recessed linear lighting lets the ceiling plane stay clean, with nothing hanging and nothing protruding. The key detailing decision is whether the profile has a visible trim.
Trimless
A trimless profile is fixed into the ceiling board before plastering, then skimmed in so only the diffuser is visible. The light appears to be cut straight out of the ceiling. It is the most architectural finish, but it has to be coordinated early with the drylining contractor and programmed before plastering.
Trimmed
A trimmed profile has a slim flange that sits on the ceiling surface and hides the cut edge. It can go in after decoration, suits grid and plasterboard ceilings, and is quicker and more forgiving on site.
How to choose
- Choose trimless for feature ceilings, receptions, residential-grade finishes and anywhere the ceiling is part of the design.
- Choose trimmed for fast-track fit-outs, grid ceilings and refurbishments where access is limited.
Clyde, Rio and Lopen are all available in both trim and trimless recessed versions. Ask for installation details.

What is trimless linear lighting?

Can trimless lights be fitted after plastering?
Generally no. Trimless profiles are installed before plastering. Trimmed profiles can be fitted after decoration.
